Wingify (VWO) vs Optimizely 2026: An Honest Comparison
VWO is now sold as Wingify. Wingify vs Optimizely compared on pricing, free access, behavioural analytics, server-side testing, statistics, tier gates, support and AI, using only facts from each vendor's own pages. Updated October 2026.

The short answer: As of October 8, 2026, "VWO vs Optimizely" is really Wingify vs Optimizely: vwo.com now 301 redirects to wingify.com, the company formed when VWO and AB Tasty combined. Neither vendor publishes a price. Wingify lists Growth, Pro and Enterprise tiers per product, each behind "Schedule a Demo", priced on MAU; Optimizely says "Every Optimizely plan is individually packaged." Wingify wins for marketing and CRO teams that want native heatmaps, session recordings and surveys next to their tests, a 30-day trial with no card, and published support response times. Optimizely wins for engineering-led programmes that run server-side tests and feature flags, want a free Rollouts plan for flags, or are consolidating onto its CMS and commerce suite. Even Wingify's own comparison page concedes Optimizely is the better fit for experimentation "wired deeply into CI/CD pipelines".
Both are serious enterprise experimentation platforms, and the honest version of this comparison has each winning about half the categories. Facts below are labelled with the vendor page and the date we read it. Where a fact was last checked in August and not re-read today, we say so.
What changed since August
- VWO is sold as Wingify. The VWO and AB Tasty merger was announced January 20, 2026; the app moved to app.wingify.com on June 13, 2026; the unified Wingify brand launched September 16, 2026. vwo.com and vwo.com/pricing 301 to wingify.com (checked October 8, 2026). If you are a current customer, read what the merger means at renewal.
- VWO has no free plan on its own pages. Our August version said VWO offered "a free plan plus a 30 day trial". On October 8, 2026, wingify.com/pricing and wingify.com/free-trial list only the 30-day trial. We have corrected that.
- Wingify now publishes its own Wingify vs Optimizely page (modified September 28, 2026). We quote it where it concedes ground, and label its claims as vendor marketing elsewhere.

When each wins
Wingify wins when:
- Experimentation sits in marketing, growth or CRO, and the team wants the "why" (heatmaps, recordings, funnels, form analytics, surveys) in the same tool as the test.
- You need to see the product on your own site before procurement. The 30-day trial needs no card.
- You want support commitments in writing up front. Wingify publishes first response times by tier.
- You want to buy one module and add others later rather than enter a suite negotiation.
Optimizely wins when:
- Experiments run server-side, in mobile apps or behind feature flags as a matter of course, and engineering owns the programme.
- An engineer needs flags today for free. Rollouts covers that; Wingify has no free plan.
- You already run, or plan to run, Optimizely CMS or Commerce, so experimentation is one more line on an existing contract.
- Your behavioural data already lives in a warehouse and analysts query it there. Optimizely's analytics is warehouse-native.
Neither is a good fit when you need a published price this week, or your main question is which ads and pages produce revenue. That is covered at the end.
Pricing: neither one publishes a number
Optimizely. optimizely.com/pricing redirects to optimizely.com/plans, which opens with a lead form and this sentence: "Every Optimizely plan is individually packaged. Tell us a bit about your digital needs, and we'll create a plan together." No tier table, no number (read October 8, 2026).
Wingify. wingify.com/pricing (modified September 22, 2026) lists nine products, each with Growth, Pro and Enterprise tiers and a "Schedule a Demo" button, and no currency figures. Its FAQ says pricing is custom, "based on your Monthly Active Users (MAUs), depending on the product", with Behavioural Analytics on Monthly Tracked Users. It also says "No fixed plans. Just a custom proposal built around your goals and scope." Full breakdown in VWO pricing.
Both offer discounts you have to ask for. Wingify's FAQ confirms discounts on bundles and longer contracts, and preferential pricing for non-profits.
What buyers reportedly pay
The only public signal is aggregated procurement data. These figures are reported secondhand by Vendr from anonymized contracts, last updated February 2026, before the Wingify rebrand. Neither vendor has confirmed them.
- Optimizely: median buyer pays $81,447 per year, based on 126 purchases (vendr.com/marketplace/optimizely).
- VWO: average contract value $16,660 per year, based on 101 purchases (vendr.com/marketplace/vwo).
Read those as an order of magnitude, not a quote. Much of the gap is scope: Optimizely deals often include CMS or commerce.
Free access and evaluation
Winner: depends on who is evaluating.
Wingify's trial page says "Free for 30 days. No credit card required." The pricing FAQ describes it as access to "most of our core products, tools, and system settings", plus a sandbox "pre-loaded with realistic data". A marketer can install the SmartCode and ship a client-side test inside the trial. There is no free plan after it.
Optimizely's docs: "Optimizely Rollouts is the free plan for Feature Experimentation, designed for startups and teams looking to get started. It includes free feature flags and the ability to run one A/B test." There is no equivalent free entry to Optimizely Web Experimentation.
So: for a marketer, Wingify. For an engineer who wants flags with no end date, Optimizely.
Behavioural analytics in the same platform
Winner: Wingify, clearly.
Wingify sells Behavior Analytics (heatmaps, session recordings, form analytics, funnels) and User Feedback (surveys) as products on the same platform as testing. Optimizely's plans page lists Content Management, Experimentation, Agent Platform, Content Marketing Platform, Analytics, Personalization, Commerce, Asset Management, Data Platform and Feature Management. Heatmaps and session replay are not among them, and its Analytics product is described as "warehouse-native".
Wingify's comparison page says Optimizely handles heatmaps and recordings "through third-party connectors like Microsoft Clarity, Mouseflow, or Heap". That is Wingify's claim about a competitor; Optimizely's own plans page is consistent with it.
Two caveats on Wingify's side. Behavior Analytics is sampled and keeps only 30 days on Growth, 60 on Pro and 90 on Enterprise. If you need long heatmap history, budget for Pro or a retention add-on.
Server-side experimentation and feature management
Winner: Optimizely.
Optimizely runs Feature Experimentation as a full product line with its own developer docs site and the free Rollouts tier. Wingify's Feature Experimentation is a real product too: feature flags, server-side tests and rollouts, open source SDKs listed for Node, JavaScript, React, Java, PHP, Python, .NET, Go, Ruby, Android, iOS, React Native and Flutter, and an MCP server for managing flags from an IDE.
The tie-breaker is maturity of the developer ecosystem, and here Wingify concedes the point on its own comparison page: "If you're embedding experimentation deep in CI/CD pipelines, Optimizely's developer ecosystem is more established."
One cost detail engineers miss on Wingify: enabling impact analysis on a rollout rule means "Wingify tracks 100% of the users evaluated for that flag", so a 20% rollout consumes quota for every evaluated user (help.wingify.com, read October 8, 2026).
Statistics and test governance
Winner: Optimizely on documented rigour. Wingify on transparency of what each tier gets.
Optimizely's Stats Engine combines sequential testing with false discovery rate control, so results stay valid whenever you look and correct for many goals and variations (support.optimizely.com, checked August 17, 2026). It is the most thoroughly documented answer to peeking and multiple comparisons in the category.
Wingify's pricing page describes a "Bayesian-powered reporting dashboard" with an optional sequential testing mode "to make in-built adjustments for peeking errors". It also lists, by tier:
- Pro and up: sample ratio mismatch detection, guardrail metrics (Wingify "disables underperforming variations or notifies you when metrics drop below guardrail thresholds"), multivariate testing, cross-domain testing.
- Enterprise only: approval workflow, mutually exclusive groups, SSO, API access.
That is useful to know before you sign: on Wingify Growth, you get no SRM check and no guardrails. Optimizely does not publish an equivalent tier map, so ask which governance features are in your package.
Support and data retention
Winner: Wingify on what is published.
Wingify publishes first response times in working hours: 8 on Growth, 6 on Pro, 4 on Enterprise, with 24x7 support on Enterprise. It publishes retention: 13 months for most products, 30 to 90 days for Behavioural Analytics. Optimizely publishes neither on its plans page. That does not mean Optimizely is worse. It means you negotiate it, so get the SLA and retention in writing.
AI and agents
Winner: draw. Both ship agents and MCP servers.
Wingify's AI layer is Wingz. Wingz Core is included with every paid product and includes an MCP connection to tools such as ChatGPT and Claude, covering all Wingify data except Behavior Analytics, plus AI Analyze. Wingz Advanced is a paid upgrade adding Behavior Analytics data over MCP, AI Workflow, AI Autopilot and Synthetic AB Test.
Optimizely's AI is Opal, sold through its Agent Platform, and it documents Experimentation and Analytics MCP servers (support.optimizely.com, checked August 17, 2026).
Wingify's comparison page argues Wingz has an edge because it reads native heatmap and recording data. That follows from the behavioural analytics point above rather than being a separate advantage. MCP itself is table stakes for both.
Market context: the merger
On January 20, 2026, VWO and AB Tasty announced they were combining; since September 16, 2026 both are sold under the Wingify brand. Wingify told customers that existing contracts, pricing, service levels and support remain unchanged. The practical risk is roadmap reconciliation between two overlapping suites. If you are signing multi-year, get roadmap, retention and support commitments in the contract. The full renewal checklist is in our merger guide, and the AB Tasty side is in VWO vs AB Tasty.
If neither fits
Disclosure: we make Humblytics.
Some buyers do not need server-side testing, flags or an enterprise governance layer, and mainly want to know which ads and pages produce revenue, at a published price. Humblytics is $79 a month on Business and $279 on Scale, with a 14-day trial. It does not do server-side testing, feature flags, personalization, multivariate tests or session replay, and tests auto-stop only after a set duration, not on a guardrail. If you need those, pick Wingify or Optimizely. Comparisons: Humblytics vs VWO, Humblytics vs Optimizely. For the wider field: Wingify alternatives and Optimizely alternatives.
Conclusion
Wingify and Optimizely are no longer competing for quite the same buyer. Optimizely is the stronger engineering platform, with a free flags tier, a deeper developer ecosystem, documented false discovery rate control and a full digital experience suite. Wingify is the stronger marketing platform, with native heatmaps, recordings and surveys next to the test, a no-card trial, and published support times and retention.
Two things to carry into either evaluation. No price on either site is real until you have a quote. And on Wingify, the tier decides more than the price: SRM checks and guardrails start at Pro, and SSO and API access at Enterprise.
Frequently asked questions
Is VWO the same as Wingify now?
Yes. VWO and AB Tasty combined after an announcement on January 20, 2026, and since September 16, 2026 both are sold under the Wingify brand. As of October 8, 2026, vwo.com and vwo.com/pricing 301 redirect to wingify.com.
Is Wingify (VWO) cheaper than Optimizely?
On the only public dataset, yes. Vendr reports an average VWO contract of $16,660 a year across 101 purchases and a median Optimizely contract of $81,447 across 126, both last updated February 2026 and both secondhand. Neither vendor publishes a list price, and much of the gap is scope.
Does Wingify or Optimizely publish pricing?
Neither, as of October 8, 2026. Wingify shows Growth, Pro and Enterprise tiers per product with "Schedule a Demo" and no figures, and says pricing is based on MAU. Optimizely's plans page says "Every Optimizely plan is individually packaged."
Can I try either for free?
Wingify offers a 30-day free trial with no credit card and lists no free plan. Optimizely offers Rollouts, "the free plan for Feature Experimentation", with free feature flags and one A/B test. There is no free entry to Optimizely Web Experimentation.
Which is better for server-side testing?
Optimizely. Both sell feature flags and server-side testing, but Wingify's own comparison page says Optimizely's developer ecosystem is "more established" for experimentation embedded in CI/CD pipelines.
Which includes heatmaps and session recordings?
Wingify, through its Behavior Analytics product, with surveys in User Feedback. Optimizely does not list heatmaps or session replay on its plans page; its analytics product is warehouse-native.
Which Wingify tier do I need for SRM checks and SSO?
Sample ratio mismatch detection, guardrail metrics and multivariate testing start at Pro. SSO, API access and approval workflow are Enterprise only. Source: wingify.com/pricing, read October 8, 2026.
