Hotjar Pricing 2026: Every Tier, Verified From the Source
Hotjar pricing moved to Contentsquare. Here is the full session ladder from $49 to $739, what the replay cap really costs you, and the free plan ceiling.

The short answer: Hotjar no longer has its own pricing page. As of August 2026,
hotjar.com/pricing/resolves tocontentsquare.com/pricing/, because Hotjar Ltd. merged into the Contentsquare Group on 1 July 2025 (support.contentsquare.com, verified August 2026). What used to be Hotjar is now the Experience Analytics product line. It has a genuinely large Free plan at $0 for 200,000 monthly sessions, and a Growth plan that starts at $49 per month for 7,000 monthly sessions and rises in fifteen published steps to $739 per month at 200,000 monthly sessions. Above that, Pro and Enterprise are quoted by sales. Annual billing takes 20% off. Every number on this page was read from contentsquare.com/pricing on 17 August 2026.
Most articles about Hotjar pricing still quote a plan structure that no longer exists. Basic, Plus, Business and Scale, priced in daily session counts, was the Hotjar model, and it is gone from the point of sale. If you are evaluating Hotjar today you are evaluating Contentsquare, and the pricing works differently enough that a stale table will mislead you by hundreds of dollars a month in both directions. Every figure below carries the URL it was read from and the date it was read.
At a glance: what Hotjar costs in 2026
| Plan | Monthly sessions | Price per month | Session replays included | Data access | Projects |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 200,000 | $0 | 10,000 | 1 month | 1 |
| Growth (entry) | 7,000 | $49 | 7,000 | 13 months | 3 |
| Growth | 20,000 | $119 | 20,000 | 13 months | 3 |
| Growth | 45,000 | $219 | 20,000 | 13 months | 3 |
| Growth | 100,000 | $409 | 20,000 | 13 months | 3 |
| Growth (top published) | 200,000 | $739 | 30,000 | 13 months | 3 |
| Pro | From 1,000,000 | Quoted | Up to 100% captured | 13 months | Up to 6 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Quoted | Up to 100% captured | 13 months | Unlimited |

Quick verdict
If you have under 200,000 sessions a month and you only need to look at behaviour, the free plan is the answer and you should not pay Contentsquare anything. It is the most generous free tier in the category by a wide margin, and it is a straight upgrade on what Hotjar's own free plan offered.
If you need history, more than one project, or replay coverage that keeps up with your traffic, Growth is priced sanely at the bottom and gets expensive in the middle. The specific thing to check before you commit is the replay cap, which stops rising at 20,000 while the price keeps climbing. More on that below, because it is the single most expensive misunderstanding available on this pricing page.
What happened to Hotjar's pricing page
Hotjar merged into the Contentsquare Group on 1 July 2025. The Contentsquare help centre states it plainly:
"As of 1 July 2025, Hotjar (Hotjar Ltd. Malta) merged into the Contentsquare Group. The tools you know and love from Hotjar, such as Heatmaps, Recordings, and Surveys, can be found in Contentsquare."
Source: support.contentsquare.com, "Hotjar is now part of Contentsquare, Plans and Pricing", read 17 August 2026.
Contentsquare's own Hotjar landing page is more direct about what that means for a buyer:
"If you were looking to try Hotjar, Contentsquare is where you sign up, and you'll get a lot more for free."
Source: contentsquare.com/hotjar, read 17 August 2026.
There is therefore no Hotjar price to look up. There is a Contentsquare price, split across three products you buy separately.
- Experience Analytics is the Hotjar lineage: heatmaps, session replay, funnels, error monitoring.
- Voice of Customer is surveys and feedback widgets, priced by monthly responses.
- Product Analytics is retention, journeys and event funnels, priced by monthly sessions.
Each has its own Free, Growth, Pro and Enterprise ladder. Buying "Contentsquare" can mean any combination, which is why a single headline price does not exist.
The full Experience Analytics price ladder
This is the part nobody publishes. The Growth plan is not one price, it is a session slider with fifteen priced steps. Read from contentsquare.com/pricing on 17 August 2026:
| Monthly sessions | Price per month | Session replays included |
|---|---|---|
| 7,000 | $49 | 7,000 |
| 10,000 | $69 | 10,000 |
| 15,000 | $99 | 15,000 |
| 20,000 | $119 | 20,000 |
| 25,000 | $139 | 20,000 |
| 30,000 | $159 | 20,000 |
| 35,000 | $179 | 20,000 |
| 45,000 | $219 | 20,000 |
| 60,000 | $279 | 20,000 |
| 75,000 | $339 | 20,000 |
| 85,000 | $369 | 20,000 |
| 100,000 | $409 | 20,000 |
| 120,000 | $469 | 20,000 |
| 150,000 | $569 | 22,000 |
| 200,000 | $739 | 30,000 |
The slider offers one more step, 240,000 and above, which carries no published price. Above 200,000 sessions you are in a sales conversation whether the plan is labelled Growth, Pro or Enterprise.
The replay cap is the real cost curve
Look down the third column. Replay volume rises with price up to 20,000 sessions, then flattens completely. From 25,000 sessions to 120,000 sessions, five price steps and $330 a month apart, you get exactly 20,000 replays.
The pricing page states the rule directly:
"Up to 20k monthly sessions: 100% captured. Over 20k monthly sessions: 15% captured (min. 20k)."
Source: contentsquare.com/pricing, Session Replays comparison row, read 17 August 2026.
Do the arithmetic on your own traffic before you budget. At 100,000 sessions a month you pay $409 and can watch 20,000 replays, which is one in five visits. Heatmaps and funnels still see everything, because those run on the full session count. But replay, the thing most teams actually open the tool to do, is sampled hard, and paying more does not unsample it until you reach Pro. That is not hidden, it is simply stated in a comparison row most buyers scroll past while looking at the number in the pricing card.
The free plan's real ceiling
The free plan is not a trial. It is a permanent tier, and at 200,000 monthly sessions it will cover the entire traffic of most SaaS companies and agencies. Contentsquare is explicit about the contrast with what Hotjar used to give away:
"The free plan also captures 200k sessions per month, compared to 35/day on Hotjar's free plan."
Source: contentsquare.com/hotjar, read 17 August 2026.
So where does free actually stop? Three places, and none of them is traffic.
- Data access is one month. Growth gives 13 months. On free you cannot compare this quarter to last quarter, run a year-over-year read, or look back at what a page did before you changed it. For conversion work this is the binding limit, not sessions.
- Replays are capped at 10,000 a month. At 200,000 sessions that is 5% of visits.
- One project. A project is the workspace for one domain or one set of domains. One project means one site, which rules out agencies and anyone running separate staging, marketing and app properties.
New accounts also start with a 15-day trial of Growth before dropping to Free, per the Contentsquare FAQ read 17 August 2026. That is a trial of the paid tier, not a limit on the free one.
What happens when you exceed the session limit
This is the answer most pricing articles get wrong, because they assume an overage bill. There is no overage bill. Data collection stops.
"When your session allowance limit is reached, new data won't be collected for the remainder of your billing cycle. To continue collecting data you can upgrade the session allowance for your plan or wait until your allowance resets at the next billing cycle date. We recommend selecting a plan that allows you to capture every session."
Source: support.contentsquare.com, "Contentsquare Free and Growth plans", read 17 August 2026.
The pricing page repeats the same warning in its own FAQ, telling buyers to "capture every session on your site" and noting that once the Growth allowance is consumed, "you won't be able to get more session data before the next month."
This is better than a surprise invoice and worse than a soft cap. A traffic spike from a launch does not cost you money, it costs you the rest of the month's data, including the data about the spike. Size the tier for your peak, not your average.
The add-ons and the parts that are quoted
Several capabilities that read like features on the comparison table are marked "Optional add-on" with no price attached. As of 17 August 2026 that list includes Data Connect (warehouse export), the full version of the Sense Analyst agent, several user journey analysis features, performance monitoring, and most error monitoring rows beyond the basics.
Two further pricing facts worth knowing before you model a budget, both from contentsquare.com/pricing read 17 August 2026:
- Voice of Customer is billed separately by response volume. Free covers 100 monthly responses and 3 surveys. Growth starts at $99 per month for 500 responses and rises through published steps to $1,479 per month at 100,000 responses. If you are replacing Hotjar's surveys, this is a second line item, not part of Experience Analytics.
- Product Analytics publishes no price at all. Its Free tier covers up to 10,000 monthly sessions with 6 months of history. Growth starts at 17,000 sessions and Pro at 33,000, and both say "Let's talk".
Billing itself is account level, not per site. The pricing FAQ states: "the prices are for your entire account within one geographic region, no matter how many sites you have under the same account." European customers are billed in euros, everyone else in US dollars, per the Contentsquare help centre. Annual payment by card or PayPal takes 20% off, but the help centre notes that discount "is not applicable when paying by invoice."
Where this pricing model works in your favour
- The free tier is real and permanent, and 200,000 sessions is enough for most companies to never pay
- The entry price of $49 is genuinely low for heatmaps plus replay plus funnels
- Prices are published in a ladder, so you can budget without a sales call up to 200,000 sessions
- There is no overage invoice, so a traffic spike cannot produce a surprise charge
- Growth requires no annual contract, and you can downgrade to Free to cancel
Where it works against you
- Replay coverage stops improving at 20,000 while price keeps climbing to $739
- Exceeding your session allowance stops data collection for the rest of the cycle
- Surveys are a separate product with a separate ladder that reaches $1,479 per month
- Product Analytics is entirely quoted, so a full-platform budget cannot be assembled from the page
- Everything above 200,000 sessions is a sales conversation
- Three projects on Growth is thin for an agency running client sites
What this costs when the job includes A/B testing and revenue
Disclosure: we make Humblytics, so treat this section as what it is.
Experience Analytics tells you what visitors did. It does not run the experiment that fixes it, and it does not resolve the result against money. Contentsquare's own Pro tier is where "revenue metrics" appear on the heatmap comparison row, and Pro is quoted, not published. So the honest full-stack comparison is not $49 against $49.
The other shape in this category bundles the whole loop behind one script and publishes the price. Humblytics is $79 per month on the Business plan, its floor, with Scale at $279 per month and Enterprise quoted. That one script covers analytics, heatmaps, funnels, A/B testing and first-party UTM revenue attribution, and a test verdict resolves against Stripe revenue rather than a conversion event. Business includes 500,000 events a month, unlimited websites, and a hosted MCP server so an agent in Claude or Codex can read the data and run the loop. There is a 14-day trial and no call required. Prices are at humblytics.com/pricing.
It is not the same product. There is no enterprise experience-analytics suite, no mobile app analytics, no error and performance monitoring, and nothing approaching Contentsquare's zone-based attention analysis. The trade is scope against completeness of the loop: you give up depth of observation and you get the test and the revenue read in the same bill.
Choose Contentsquare, formerly Hotjar, if you
- Have under 200,000 sessions a month and want serious behaviour analytics for $0
- Need session replay, heatmaps, funnels and error monitoring in one place
- Care more about watching and diagnosing than about testing and attributing
- Want a published price you can put in a budget without a sales call
- Are on an enterprise footprint and will actually use zone-based attention analysis
Look elsewhere if you
- Need replay coverage that scales with traffic above 20,000 sessions without going to Pro
- Cannot tolerate data collection stopping mid-month on a traffic spike
- Are an agency needing more than three projects on a self-serve plan
- Need A/B testing, not just observation, in the same tool
- Want the test verdict to resolve in revenue rather than in a conversion event
Conclusion
Hotjar pricing in 2026 is Contentsquare pricing, and the headline is good: a permanent free tier at 200,000 monthly sessions, and a paid ladder that starts at $49 and is fully published up to $739. That is more transparency than most of the category offers, and considerably more free product than Hotjar itself ever gave away.
The two numbers to check against your own traffic are the replay cap, which flattens at 20,000 and stays flat across $330 of monthly price increase, and the hard stop when you exhaust your session allowance. Neither is hidden, both are easy to miss, and both decide whether the tool fits or you outgrow it in a quarter.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Hotjar cost in 2026?
Hotjar no longer sells under its own name. Its product line is now Contentsquare Experience Analytics, which has a free plan at $0 for 200,000 monthly sessions and a Growth plan from $49 per month at 7,000 monthly sessions, rising to $739 per month at 200,000 monthly sessions. Pro and Enterprise are quoted by sales. Verified at contentsquare.com/pricing, August 2026.
Is Hotjar still free?
Yes, and the free tier is substantially larger than Hotjar's was. Contentsquare's free plan covers 200,000 monthly sessions with heatmaps, session replay, funnels, error monitoring and basic surveys, against what Contentsquare describes as "35/day on Hotjar's free plan" (contentsquare.com/hotjar, August 2026). The catches are one month of data access, 10,000 replays a month, and a single project.
What happened to Hotjar's Basic, Plus, Business and Scale plans?
Hotjar Ltd. merged into the Contentsquare Group on 1 July 2025, and the plan structure at the point of sale is now Free, Growth, Pro and Enterprise across three separately priced products. Existing Hotjar customers are directed to the Hotjar Help Center article on billing and legal changes. Verified at support.contentsquare.com, August 2026.
What happens if I go over my session limit?
Data collection stops for the rest of the billing cycle. Contentsquare's help centre states: "When your session allowance limit is reached, new data won't be collected for the remainder of your billing cycle." You can upgrade the allowance mid-cycle or wait for the reset. There is no overage charge and no rollover. Verified at support.contentsquare.com, August 2026.
Why does the price go up but the number of session replays stay the same?
Because replay is sampled above 20,000 sessions. The pricing page states: "Up to 20k monthly sessions: 100% captured. Over 20k monthly sessions: 15% captured (min. 20k)." In practice the Growth plan includes 20,000 replays at every tier from 25,000 to 120,000 monthly sessions, so the $139 tier and the $469 tier give identical replay volume. Heatmaps and funnels still use the full session count.
Do I have to pay separately for surveys?
Yes. Surveys and feedback widgets are the Voice of Customer product, billed by monthly responses on its own ladder. Free covers 100 responses. Growth starts at $99 per month for 500 responses and reaches $1,479 per month at 100,000 responses. Verified at contentsquare.com/pricing, August 2026.
Is there a discount for paying annually?
Yes, 20%. The Contentsquare help centre states there is "a 20% yearly discount when paying on a yearly billing cycle," and the pricing FAQ adds that the discount applies when annual payment is set up in-app by card or PayPal and "is not applicable when paying by invoice." Growth does not require an annual contract. Verified August 2026.
