Amplitude Pricing 2026: What You Actually Pay Per Event
What Amplitude really costs in 2026. Every plan, the 2M free event ceiling, the MTU trap, and a worked bill for a site doing 100,000 monthly visitors.

The short answer: Amplitude prices on events ingested per month, with an MTU meter running underneath it. The Free plan gives you 2 million events a month with no time limit and no credit card. The Plus plan starts at $0, includes the first 2 million events free, and scales to 70 million. Amplitude publishes two real price points for Plus: $2,600 a year at 5 million events a month, and about $534 a month at 25 million. Growth and Enterprise are custom and event based. All figures verified August 2026 against amplitude.com/pricing, amplitude.com/compare/posthog and amplitude.com/compare/posthog-archive.
Amplitude is excellent product analytics and its free tier is the most generous in the category. Neither fact tells you what you will pay at 100,000 visitors a month.
This page works the arithmetic. Every number is cited to the Amplitude page it was read from in August 2026, and where Amplitude does not publish a figure, we say so instead of guessing.
At a glance: Amplitude plans in 2026

Quick verdict
Amplitude's pricing is unusually buyer-friendly in two ways and opaque in one.
Buyer-friendly: the free tier is 2 million events a month with the full platform attached, forever, and overage is charged at the rate you already pay rather than a penalty multiple. The Plus Plan Addendum sets additional usage at "one-point-zero times (1.0x)" your per-event fee (amplitude.com/plus-plan-terms, verified August 2026). That is materially kinder than the industry norm.
Opaque: Amplitude publishes almost no static prices. The pricing page shows "Starts at $0" and a JavaScript slider. The only concrete Plus figures in plain text sit on its competitor comparison pages, which is a strange place to keep them and the reason this article exists.
How Amplitude pricing actually works
There are two meters, not one
Amplitude bills on events on its self-serve plans, but MTUs run alongside, and its docs are explicit that "all Amplitude plans support MTU-based pricing" (amplitude.com/docs/admin/billing-use/mtu-guide).
An MTU is a unique user who triggers at least one event in a calendar month. Amplitude determines overage against both your total MTU volume and your events-per-MTU volume, each calculated on the last day of the month. On the Free plan the events-per-MTU limit is 1,000.
Exceed the allowance and Amplitude adds synthetic MTUs using a published formula:
(Events tracked this month - (Your plan's monthly MTU limit x 1,000)) / 1,000
That is one synthetic MTU for every 1,000 events over quota. If you are being quoted on MTUs rather than events, ask which meter binds first at your traffic shape. A high-traffic site with few logged-in users and a low-traffic site with heavy per-user instrumentation price very differently.
Overage is charged at your own rate, with a hard stop at 200%
The Plus Plan Addendum is the document that matters. Two clauses:
- Usage above your purchased volume is invoiced at 1.0x your per-event or per-MTU fee. No penalty rate.
- If your volume exceeds 200% of your purchased volume, Amplitude may suspend or terminate your account.
Source: amplitude.com/plus-plan-terms, verified August 2026. The first clause is genuinely good. The second is the one to plan around if you run campaigns that spike traffic.
Experiment events are free
[Experiment] Exposure and [Experiment] Assignment events do not count toward your MTU count. Running more A/B tests does not inflate the meter, which is a real and under-advertised advantage.
The worked example: 100,000 monthly visitors
Take a site doing 100,000 visitors a month. What you pay depends on events per visitor, so here are three instrumentation profiles with the assumption stated openly.
| Profile | Events per visitor | Monthly events |
|---|---|---|
| Light: page views plus a few key conversions | 10 | 1,000,000 |
| Typical: autocapture on, plus custom events | 25 | 2,500,000 |
| Heavy: full instrumentation, scroll and form tracking | 50 | 5,000,000 |
On the Free plan
The Free ceiling is 2 million events a month. The light profile fits with room to spare. The typical profile is 25% over. The heavy profile is 150% over.
There is a second constraint most buyers never see. Amplitude's pricing page describes Free purely as "2M Events/month forever," but its own comparison page describes the same plan as running "at 10K MTUs and up to 2M events per month" (amplitude.com/compare/posthog, verified August 2026). A site with 100,000 monthly visitors will produce roughly 100,000 MTUs, ten times that stated cap, regardless of how few events each visitor fires. Two vendor pages, two different ceilings. If you are near either boundary, check Settings, Organization Settings, Plans and Billing, where your actual limits are shown.
What happens when you exceed the free tier
This is the most useful thing in Amplitude's documentation and it is not on the pricing page. From the MTU billing guide:
Amplitude blocks a non-paying account when it exceeds its monthly limit three times. You lose access to charts and dashboards but keep admin functions like the User API so you can meet compliance obligations. Amplitude continues to ingest data up to and over your limit, and you cannot access that data unless you upgrade. If you keep exceeding the limit without upgrading, Amplitude deletes the account six months after it is first blocked.
So the free tier's real ceiling is three strikes, not one, and then a six month clock on your data. Generous, but finite.
On the Plus plan
Amplitude publishes two concrete Plus prices, both on its comparison pages:
- 5 million events a month: $2,600 per year. (amplitude.com/compare/posthog-archive)
- 25 million events a month: about $534 a month. (amplitude.com/compare/posthog)
Mapped onto our profiles:
Light, 1,000,000 events Inside the 2 million free allowance. $0 per month.
Typical, 2,500,000 events 500,000 events over the free allowance. Amplitude does not publish a price at this volume. The pricing page slider is the only source and it renders in the browser. We will not invent the number.
Heavy, 5,000,000 events $2,600 per year, which is $216.67 per month on annual billing.
Deriving the per-event rate
The following is our arithmetic from Amplitude's two published figures, not a rate Amplitude publishes.
At 5 million events, $2,600 a year is $216.67 a month for 3 million billable events (5M minus the 2M included). That is $0.0000722 per event, or about $0.072 per 1,000 events.
Between the two anchors, cost rises from $216.67 to about $534 a month, an increase of $317.33 for 20 million additional events. That is $0.0000159 per event at the margin, or about $0.016 per 1,000 events.
The marginal rate therefore falls by roughly 4.5x between 5 million and 25 million events. Amplitude's volume discount is steep and it is real. Note that the $2,600 figure is quoted annually and the $534 figure monthly, so combining them is approximate rather than exact.
Where the bill jumps
Amplitude has no cliff at a tier boundary the way seat-priced tools do. The jump is at 2,000,001 events, from $0 to something, and Amplitude will not tell you what that something is without the calculator.
The second jump is the one written into the contract: at 200% of purchased volume, suspension becomes an option Amplitude reserves. If you buy a 5 million event plan and a campaign pushes you to 10 million, you are at that line.
Where Amplitude pricing works in your favour
- 2 million free events, forever. No credit card, no time limit. Amplitude's FAQ is direct: "It's not a trial. There's no time limit."
- The full platform is on the free plan. Analytics, session replay, feature experimentation, web experimentation, guides and surveys, activation, AI agents and MCP, all at limited volumes rather than switched off.
- Unlimited seats on every plan.
- Overage at 1.0x, not a penalty rate. Written into the Plus Plan Addendum.
- Experiment exposure and assignment events are free. Testing does not inflate the meter.
- The startup programs are unusually strong. Under $10M raised and fewer than 20 employees gets one free year of the Growth plan, which Amplitude states as 1.2 billion events a year, or 100 million events a month, with over 96% of applicants approved. There is also a Tech for Black Founders scholarship (under $30M raised, fewer than 150 employees, US-based) and a portfolio company discount of at least 25% for venture partner companies.
Where Amplitude pricing works against you
- Almost nothing is published as static text. "Starts at $0" and a slider. The only plain-text Plus prices sit on competitor comparison pages, so they can change or disappear without notice.
- Two vendor pages state the free ceiling differently. 2M events on the pricing page, 10K MTUs and 2M events on the comparison page. Verify yours in the billing panel.
- The MTU meter is easy to miss. MTU counts can rise for reasons unrelated to growth, including backfills, test user IDs, and users on two unlinked devices.
- Backfilled data bills to the current month. Amplitude bases usage on the month you add an event, not the event's date, and names backfilling as a common cause of spikes.
- Unused events do not appear to roll over. Amplitude publishes no rollover policy; the Plus Plan Addendum calculates usage as of the last day of each calendar month.
- Add-on packages are priced as a percentage of your platform plan, per the pricing page, so unlimited session replay or experiments scale with the plan rather than costing a flat fee.
Who Amplitude is genuinely the right answer for
Amplitude is a Forrester-recognised leader in digital analytics and its depth is not in question. It is the right call when:
- You are an early-stage startup. Between the 2 million free events and the startup scholarship, many teams run a serious analytics stack at zero cost for one to two years. Very few vendors can match that.
- You want analytics, experimentation, session replay and surveys from one vendor. The platform is genuinely unified rather than modularised.
- You need behavioral depth: cohorts, retention, funnels, and experimentation with controls like CUPED, holdouts and mutual exclusion groups.
- Your team is cross-functional. Unlimited seats mean it costs nothing to put product, data, marketing and engineering on one dataset.
If that is you, start on Free and apply for the scholarship before you spend anything.
A note on flat pricing that does not scale with event volume
Event-metered pricing ties your analytics bill to your traffic. Flat-rate pricing ties it to your plan and nothing else. When your events come mostly from marketing traffic rather than logged-in product usage, that difference decides whether a good month is also an expensive one.
The tradeoff cuts both ways. Flat-rate tools are generally built for web and revenue analysis rather than deep product behavior, so you give up Amplitude's cohort, retention and experimentation depth in exchange for a bill that does not move. And below 2 million events a month, Amplitude's free tier beats every paid flat plan on price, because it is free.
Humblytics is one flat-rate option in the category, at $79 a month for Business and $279 a month for Scale, with no per-event metering. One script covers analytics, heatmaps, funnels, A/B testing and first-party UTM revenue attribution, and the test verdict resolves against Stripe revenue rather than a click. It is not a substitute for Amplitude's product analytics depth; if you need behavioral cohorts and retention curves, buy Amplitude. Other options that price flat or close to it include Fathom, Plausible and Microsoft Clarity, which is free.
Run both models against your own forecast event count. The comparison is only meaningful once you have that number.
Choose Amplitude if you...
- Are early-stage, where the free tier and the scholarship make it effectively free
- Run a product where user behavior, not page traffic, is the meaningful metric
- Want analytics, experimentation and session replay from one vendor
- Need a cross-functional team on shared data, since seats are unlimited
- Can commit to an annual volume and want overage at 1.0x rather than a penalty rate
Look at alternatives if you...
- Run a high-traffic marketing site where events scale with visitors rather than with revenue
- Need a published price before you talk to anyone, since Amplitude keeps its rates behind a calculator
- Have spiky traffic and cannot risk the 200% suspension clause
- Mostly want to know which ads and pages make money, which is attribution work rather than behavioral analysis
Conclusion
Amplitude in 2026 has the most generous free tier in product analytics and the least transparent paid pricing. Two million events a month, forever, with the whole platform attached, is a real offer, as is one free year of Growth for qualifying startups at a stated 100 million events a month.
Past the free line the published record is thin: $2,600 a year at 5 million events and about $534 a month at 25 million, both quoted on Amplitude's competitor comparison pages rather than its pricing page. Our arithmetic puts the effective rate at about $0.072 per 1,000 events at the 5 million level, dropping to about $0.016 per 1,000 at the margin above it.
Before you commit, do three things. Confirm whether you are being quoted on events or MTUs, because at 100,000 visitors a month the two meters give very different answers. Get the per-event rate at your volume in writing, since it is not published. And read clause 2.1 of the Plus Plan Addendum, because the 200% suspension threshold is the only hard edge in the contract.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Amplitude cost per month?
Amplitude's Free plan is $0 for 2 million events a month with no credit card and no time limit. The Plus plan starts at $0, includes the first 2 million events free, and scales to 70 million. Amplitude publishes two concrete Plus prices: $2,600 per year at 5 million events a month, and about $534 a month at 25 million events. Growth and Enterprise are custom and event based. Verified August 2026 at amplitude.com/pricing, amplitude.com/compare/posthog-archive and amplitude.com/compare/posthog.
What is Amplitude's free plan limit and what happens when you hit it?
The pricing page states 2 million events a month, forever. Amplitude's MTU billing guide explains the consequence of exceeding it: a non-paying account is blocked after exceeding its monthly limit three times. You lose access to charts and dashboards but retain admin functions like the User API. Amplitude keeps ingesting data over the limit but you cannot view it without upgrading, and the account is deleted six months after it is first blocked.
Does Amplitude charge overage fees?
Yes, on paid plans, and at your own rate rather than a penalty rate. The Plus Plan Addendum states that usage above your purchased Event Volume or MTU volume is invoiced at one-point-zero times (1.0x) your per-event or per-MTU fee. It also states that if your volume exceeds 200% of your purchased volume, Amplitude may suspend or terminate the account.
Does Amplitude price on events or MTUs?
Both, depending on your contract. The self-serve Free and Plus plans are presented in events, but Amplitude's docs state that all plans support MTU-based pricing, and overage is assessed against both total MTU volume and events per MTU. On the Free plan the events-per-MTU limit is 1,000. Ask your rep which meter your quote is built on before comparing it to anything.
Do unused Amplitude events roll over to the next month?
Amplitude publishes no rollover policy on its pricing page, in the Plus Plan Addendum, or in the MTU billing guide. Usage is calculated as of the last day of each calendar month. Plan on the assumption that unused events expire at month end.
Is Amplitude free for startups?
Effectively, yes, for qualifying companies. The Startup Scholarship gives one free year of the Growth plan to companies with less than $10M raised and fewer than 20 employees, which Amplitude states as 1.2 billion events per year, or 100 million events a month. Amplitude also runs a Tech for Black Founders scholarship (under $30M raised, fewer than 150 employees, US-based) and a portfolio company discount of at least 25% for venture partner companies with under $25M in funding.
Is Amplitude or a flat-rate analytics tool cheaper for a marketing site?
Below 2 million events a month nothing beats Amplitude, because it is free. Above that it depends on volume. At 5 million events a month Amplitude Plus is $2,600 a year, about $217 a month, against $79 a month for a flat-rate tool like Humblytics that does not meter events. Work out your own event forecast first, and remember that if you need behavioral cohorts and retention analysis, Amplitude is worth paying the meter for.
